(Restricted Item)
Dear (INSERT NAME),

This is to notify you that the Jamaica Customs Agency has detained your package with tracking number ‘insert tracking number’. The items contained in your package are considered restricted and require a permit from ‘insert name of agency that issues the required permit’ before they can be released.
Discount
Acceptance
Discounts may be allowed in determining the transaction value provided that the invoice states and distinguishes the type of discount.

If the type of discount listed on your invoice is accepted by Customs then your discounted total will be used in assessment. However, if the type of discount listed on your invoice is not accepted by Customs then your initial grand total will be used in assessment.
For example, personal discounts still attract Customs duty charges as they are classified as a method of payment.
Duty Concession
We can submit a request to have your duty concession applied to an item for you.
Kindly submit the following documents at least three days prior to the arrival of the shipment:
1. Passport scan (Bio page).
2. TRN
3. Item invoice
4. Authorization letter - MUST be notarized
5. Duty Concession document
The authorization letter should state that ASAP Express Ltd. has the legal authority to act on your behalf.
How are Customs charges calculated?
Customs fees are calculated based on the type of goods and their declared value. The order subtotal, tax and the shipping cost are combined to receive the order total.
If you have a specific item in mind, we can calculate an estimated Customs charge for you.
Invoice attached by supplier VS invoice submitted by Customer
Any commercial invoice that is attached to your package by your supplier is a binding document that contains information about the contents of the package and the agreements made. Such as all tasks, risks, and costs associated with the transaction of goods. This invoice takes precedence over an invoice submitted by the customer. Based on this commercial invoice, the Customs authorities determine whether import duties have to be paid on the goods.
Invoice submission importance
Packages with an order total of US$50 or less will not attract Customs charges. However, if the value is greater, Customs charges may be calculated on the full value. It is therefore important that the invoice be included in the package, or submitted prior to shipment arrivals to assist with the assessment of the items.

Service charge
(Definition)
The service charge is the duty charged on your package by The Jamaica Customs Agency. This happens when your package is assessed at a value that exceeds USD50.
Used Items
The Customs agency treats used items with some amount of discretion. You are still liable to be charged, as the Customs Officer may research the items in your package. However, the fees may be minimal. They have a code that they apply specifically to used articles. Our representatives will make a note of this and inform Customs.
Why am I charged at Customs?
The Jamaica Customs Agency collects duties and taxes on behalf of the Government of Jamaica, on goods imported into the country. If the cost of the items you are importing exceeds USD 50, you are liable to be charged a Customs duty fee.
ASAP Express has to declare to Jamaica Customs the contents and value of each package entering the country through our service. If invoices are not provided, this may result in delays at Customs and there is the possibility that the Customs officer inspecting the shipment will assign a higher value to your package.
Customs officials use the information you provide on the invoice to assess whether additional import documents are required for clearance, for example if your items are restricted or of a high value. They also use the information to decide whether your goods will attract import duty and tax and if so, how much the duty and tax will be.
Shipping Time
The shipping time is about three to five (3-5) days after packages are delivered and processed at the warehouse.
